A drive and tour of holiday light displays in the hill country
Planned by: Josh Butts
After the success of our first annual lights tour last year, we've decided to make it an annual tradition. This year our goal is to hit not one but two light displays. We'll visit both the Johnson City Lights Spectacular and the Marble Falls Walk of Lights. Obviously in order to properly appreciate these displays, this event will take place in the evening.
We've scheduled a short but scenic trip out from southwest Austin to our first stop in Johnson City, but we'd love for members in New Braunfels, San Antonio, and other points south to meet up with us in Johnson City!
As it's still 2020, we still have to do the mask-wearing socially-distant thing. Our policies remain the same - wear a mask when you're outside of your car and be respectful of peoples' personal space. The links above outline the policies of each light display, though the Johnson City display will be a drive-through for us, so that's pretty low-impact. The Marble Falls display is an out door walk-through exhibit.
There is no official dinner at the end of this event but we'll send a list of good places to eat in Marble Falls if you're inclined to do so, and obviously you're welcome to choose to eat before or after taking in the display there.
We'll provide turn-by-turn directions and a driver's briefing via email on the Thursday before the event.
Meeting Time & Place
Oak Hill Plaza, near the Wells Fargo
4:15pm for a 4:30pm departure
Rest Stop
Stripes, Johnson City on US-281
5:40pm, departing at 6pm
Johnson City Lights Spectacular
After departing the Stripes we will drive through the light display in Johnson City before taking s straight shot 281 north to Marble Falls.
Marble Falls Walk of Lights
Our route takes us to the parking area for the Marble Falls Walk of Lights. Parking there is a bit "unofficial" but there is usually plenty of spaces along the surface streets and in their makeshift lots. If you're hungry you may choose to cruise past this waypoint and grab a bite in downtown Marble Falls before returning to the light display.
RSVPs for this event are currently closed
